Sound bridge

Also known as audio bridge.

Audio that continues across or begins before a picture transition to connect shots or scenes.

In practice

Dialogue, ambience, music, or effects can establish continuity, anticipation, contrast, or memory; a sound bridge is broader than the timeline shapes called J- and L-cuts.
