Cut
Also known as cut call, edit, hard cut.
A call to stop recording and end the current take.
In practice
On set, the authorized call ends the take and departments hold until movement is safe. In editorial, a cut is the transition between adjacent images or sounds; J-cuts, L-cuts, match cuts, smash cuts, and jump cuts describe particular relationships across that boundary.
