Smash cut

Also known as hard contrast cut.

An abrupt edit designed to create strong contrast in image, sound, time, scale, or emotional tone.

In practice

The effect depends on the relationship between the outgoing and incoming material, not on a special software transition. It is often used for surprise, comedy, shock, or a hard change of pace.
