Blocking
Also known as scene blocking, blocking rehearsal.
The rehearsal and planning of actor movement, camera position, and spatial relationships before a take.
In practice
The director and performers establish motivated movement while camera, sound, lighting, grip, art, and continuity translate it into marks, eyelines, coverage, access, and safe working paths. Blocking remains adjustable as performance and technical needs evolve.
