Microphone maximum SPL
Also known as maximum sound-pressure level, max SPL.
The highest specified sound-pressure level a microphone can accept before exceeding a stated distortion limit.
In practice
For a condenser microphone, the capsule or internal electronics may overload; an attenuation pad can increase headroom on designs that provide one. Read the test frequency, load, distortion threshold, pad setting, and units instead of treating the headline number as universal performance.
