Dissolve
Also known as cross dissolve, lap dissolve.
A transition in which one image gradually fades out while another simultaneously fades in.
In practice
Duration and overlap affect whether the dissolve suggests time, place, memory, comparison, or simply a soft transition; it also combines the luminance of both shots.
