Casting couch
Also known as casting-couch culture.
A historical euphemism for sexual coercion, harassment, or exploitation by people who condition professional opportunity on sexual access.
In practice
It is not a legitimate casting practice or a harmless furniture joke. Auditions and employment must follow anti-harassment law, union protections, transparent notice, meaningful consent, and safe reporting processes.
Usage note
Content warning: sexual harassment and abuse. Use the term to discuss or identify exploitation, never to normalize it.
