Word clock
Also known as sample clock.
A digital timing reference used to synchronize audio converters and devices at a common sample rate.
In practice
A stable system has one intentional timing leader, correct distribution and termination, compatible sample rates, and documented fallback; poor clocking can cause clicks or loss of lock.
