Also known as mix stem, DME stem.

A separately delivered submix of a defined program element group, such as dialogue, music, or effects.

In practice

Stems support revisions, localization, trailers, versions, and alternate mixes; their channels, level, processing, synchronization, and sum-to-master behavior must be specified.
