Set Costumer
Also known as On-Set Costumer, Set Wardrobe.
A Set Costumer stays with the shooting unit to protect costume continuity and condition during rehearsals and takes. They check garments before camera, make fast adjustments and repairs, manage coats and comfort between takes, photograph continuity, support changes, and communicate with cast, ADs, sound, hair, makeup, and the costume trailer.
The Set Costumer is the department’s active representative beside camera. They see what movement, weather, props, stunts, microphones, food, effects, and repeated takes do to the clothes.
They must fix problems quietly and quickly without interrupting performance or making unapproved design changes.
Pre-production responsibilities
- Prepare set bags, continuity references, duplicates, weather supplies, and change plans.
Production responsibilities
- Maintain camera-ready costumes and continuity beside the active set.
Post-production responsibilities
- Return garments and report cleaning, repair, damage, and next-day needs.
