Key Costumer
Also known as Lead Costumer, Key Wardrobe.
A Key Costumer leads the costumers who dress and maintain principal cast and set wardrobe. They organize daily looks and changes, assign performers, coordinate fittings and continuity, prepare trailers and racks, solve garment problems, and communicate the Costume Designer and Supervisor’s priorities to the working crew.
The Key Costumer is a senior hands-on leader connecting department planning with performer-ready execution.
The role must protect comfort, privacy, continuity, microphone needs, stunt requirements, quick changes, weather, cleanliness, and fragile or valuable garments.
Pre-production responsibilities
- Organize cast assignments, fittings, trailers, racks, continuity, and daily workflow.
Production responsibilities
- Lead dressing and set coverage while maintaining continuity and garment condition.
Post-production responsibilities
- Support returns, inventory, laundry, repairs, and wrap.
