Contrast viewing glass
Also known as cameraman's glass, contrast glass, viewing glass, bullshit glass (dated slang).
A dark monocular viewing filter used to evaluate relative lighting contrast and source direction without continuously viewing the full scene brightness.
In practice
Historically used by cinematographers, it does not replace a calibrated monitor, meter, or approved solar-viewing protection. Products and safe viewing limitations differ.
