ADR

Also known as automated dialogue replacement, additional dialogue recording, looping.

Automated dialogue replacement: re-recording dialogue in sync with picture after principal photography.

In practice

Editors and dialogue teams identify cues, performers re-record against picture, and the new takes are edited and mixed to match performance, perspective, room, and production sound. “Automated” is historical terminology; the performance is not automatic.
